Express Radiology Research Lab

Overview of Services

The Express Radiology Research Laboratory at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine performs advanced radiology training and critical large animal research. The lab enables Johns Hopkins researchers to evolve benchside research into clinical trials for industry practice and improved patient health care.

The Express Radiology Research Lab’s mission is to train, educate & conduct research, and it is uniquely qualified to perform advanced imaging studies. Team members are brought together to solve today’s medical mysteries by developing new imaging techniques, improving medical devices and communicating information with stunning imaging.

All animal studies are approved by the Johns Hopkins Animal Care and Use Committee, ensuring compliance with medical ethics. The Express Radiology Research Lab provides a training ground not only for radiologists but also for anesthesiologists, cardiologists, gastroenterologists, oncologists, pediatricians, pulmonologists, surgeons, urologists and many other specialists interested in perfecting and learning advanced imaging techniques, as well as supporting specialists to develop technology that will ultimately be used to offer progressive personalized care for patients.

General Scheduling Guidelines

1. If you are a first-time user of ERRL, we will be happy to set up a meeting with you to discuss your project.  There are no charges for consultation.

2. If you are a first-time user of iLabs, you will need to register with iLabs in advance (https://johnshopkins.corefacilities.org/), in order to be able to place a scheduling request with ERRL.

3. Your PI should confirm and assign your budget number needed for making the reservation.  The budget number tied to your name in iLabs will be the budget number that ERRL will invoice.  If you have more than one budget number tied to your name, please make a note in the scheduling reservation which budget number ERRL should invoice.

4. If you are using a lab animal for your study, you are responsible for ordering the animal(s).  ERRL does not order animals for investigators.  If you need additional information about ordering animals, please contact RAR at 410-955-3713. For additional information see http://ssc.jhmi.edu/supplychain/guides/training_and_support/anpo.pdf

5. It is necessary that your animal(s) arrive at JHU a minimum of 5-7 days in advance of your scheduled reservation.

6. JHU investigators must cancel at least 24 hours in advance or a cancellation fee will be charged. Industry members must cancel at least one week in advance in order to prevent a cancellation fee.

7. Late arrival policy: study groups that arrive late may have their reservation cancelled and may be charged for the room reservation.

8. A new iLabs request should be placed for every scheduling date (do not use one request to apply for separate dates for the same procedure).
