The Specimen Accessioning Core has been a CCSG Core since 1990 originally
served as a tissue repository. The Core has continually modified its services to meet the
changing needs of the Center's investigators and has added essential specimen
accessioning, processing, storage, and distribution in conjunction with support for
ongoing Cancer Center clinical trials to its services.
• The SAC supports ongoing clinical trials and the efforts of Cancer Center
investigators by providing resources and the infrastructure for sample collection,
specimen handling (including transportation, timely cellular processing,
etc), specimen coding and de-identification, storage and tracking. Routine
processing of patient specimens/tissue samples
• Maintenance of Active, IRB-Approved Protocol for Cell and Tissue Banking,
including all regulatory paperwork
• Maintains a secure, relational database that includes detailed information on
the handling and processing of the sample, along with pertinent clinical and
demographic data that correlate to the specimen
